Blue – Not Just For Boys

Long associated with baby boys, blue has become one of the nation’s favourite colours, with brilliant shades of cobalt, teal and navy playing a huge part in interior design in homes up and down the country. Blue is a cool colour so to avoid making a room feel uncomfortable and cold, team it with neutral colours like cream, to warm it up.

Combining cream or white with blue can add a touch of femininity to a room and is commonly used to create a French country style whereas grey and blue can bring a room up-to-date and is a popular choice for modern decor. In the bedroom these colour schemes can be seen on curtains as they act as a focal point for a room, you can also use cushions to complete the look.

The living room is where most people choose to express their personality. It is the place where the majority of time is spent. Most shades of blue have a calming effect so is the perfect colour to use in the room used to relax. Darker shades can be used in larger spaces to make it feel a little cosier whereas pale shades like sky blue or duck-egg blue can make a room feel airy and light.
