Headboard Upholstery Guide

What you'll need:

  • Screwdriver
  • Knife
  • Measuring Tape
  • Scissors
  • Staple Gun
  • Fabric
  • Upholstery Foam
  • Spray Adhesive
  • Fabric
  • Wadding or Dacron
  •

Let's get started!

1. Remove Headboard And Fabric

To start fixing your headboard, disassemble it by removing the mattress. Use a screwdriver to separate the headboard, side rails, and footboard. Once the headboard is disassembled, remove any existing fabric, staples, foam and glue from the headboard.

2. Apply The Foam

Lay out the upholstery foam and place the headboard on top. Trace around the headboard and cut the foam to size.

3. Attach Wadding

Do the same step as above with your wadding or dacron but make sure you add 10-15cm on all sides for easy application. Cover the wadding with spray adhesive and press firmly onto the foam, holding in place for a few seconds. Wrap the excess wadding around the back of the headboard and staple in place.

4. Wrap The Fabric

Cut to size, leaving 15cm around the edges. Place fabric pattern-side down, position the frame, and fold over excess fabric. Secure tightly with a staple gun, placing staples 3-5 inches apart near the edge. Top Tip - Start by stapling your fabric in place from the centre and work outward to prevent any creasing.

5. Reassemble Your Bed

Reassemble the upholstered headboard, side rails, and footboard and voila!
