Following the announcement of Pantone’s Colour of the Year 2018, we wanted to share some advice for using purple in your home. UltraViolet is bold and won’t fade into the background; its complex hue makes it a refreshing choice for your home.
Bold colours can be quite scary to work with at first but interior design is all about having fun and expressing your personality, and a rise in popularity of the colour purple gives us the perfect opportunity to experiment. Whether you choose to keep it subtle and paint the insides of cupboards or shelves or soft accents like handmade cushions to adding drama with deep purple curtains or a feature wall, purple can help you to make a statement.
Purple has always been associated with luxury and elegance, and like any other luxurious item, it’s important not to go over the top as your room will begin to look tacky rather than elegant. Purples range from deep wine colours to light lilacs so if you’re painting a whole room, stick to lighter shades but if you’ve fallen for a darker shade then opt for a feature wall. Keep the feeling of luxury by pairing purples with gold accessories. If you’re looking for a more peaceful, relaxing look, then combine your purples with white. Teaming purple and yellow fabric creates a bold, mature statement.
Purple is more versatile than you may first believe, as well as looking great with white, gold and yellow, you can create a striking look with green and orange too!
